Privacy Policy

This is what fyel (operated by Thomas Simard) collects about you, why, where it goes, how long it stays and what you can ask of us. It is written to meet Quebec's Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector and Canada's PIPEDA.
Who is responsible
The person in charge of the protection of personal information at Thomas Simard is the founder, reachable at hello@fyel.io or at 936 av. du Mont-Royal Est, 2e étage, Montréal (Québec) H2J 1X2. Every request and complaint below goes there.
What we collect
Given by you: your email address and password, held by our authentication provider; the pages you write; what you tell the tutor, kept as the full transcript of your conversation; the reference files you upload, and the text extracted from them; your confirmation that you are 16 or older; and, when you subscribe, the record of your consent to the contract and the plan you chose.
Produced as you use fyel: your plan, every lesson you have been taught, your quiz answers and scores, how well you know each topic and when it is next due for review, and a count of the conversation tokens you have used each week. If you subscribe, Stripe's customer and subscription identifiers; your card details go to Stripe and never reach us.
A short record of when things happened, kept so we can tell whether fyel works: the day you opened your account, the day your subscription began, each review digest sent to you, and one line per question you ask the tutor. Each line is a name and a date — it holds nothing you wrote. It is ours alone, it goes to no one, and it comes down with your account.
If you asked to be told when fyel opens: the email address you left, and the date you left it. Nothing else is recorded with it. It is used once, to send that one message, and the list is deleted once fyel has opened. It is never used for anything else, and never given to anyone.
Not collected: your location, your browsing elsewhere, your device identifiers. We use no third-party analytics and keep no advertising data, nothing here follows you off this site, and our server logs carry no IP addresses.
Why
To run the tutoring you asked for — everything above is used for that and nothing else. Error monitoring keeps the service working, and the token count is what applies the weekly budget described in the terms. We do not sell your data, use it for advertising or train models on it.
Decisions made automatically
Your placement, your plan and your review schedule are computed automatically from your answers, with no person in the loop: the tutor models what you know and what you find hard, and that model decides what you are shown next. You may ask how a result was reached, ask for it to be corrected, and ask that a person review it — write to the address above.
Where it goes
Your data is stored and processed outside Quebec. We use a small number of processors, each receiving only what its part needs: Supabase (the database and file storage), Stripe (billing), Resend (account emails), Sentry (error reports, with no personal identifier attached), the AI provider behind the tutor, and the hosts the application runs on, Fly.io in Paris and Cloudflare worldwide. Google serves the fonts on every page, which sends it your IP address and browser type when the page loads.
The AI provider is Fireworks AI, or DeepInfra when Fireworks does not answer; both are in the United States, outside Canada. To answer each message the tutor sends it the last 24 turns of your conversation, the state of your plan and any relevant excerpts of your uploaded files, never your email address. Each provider keeps what it receives under its own terms, which we cannot undo; ask us for the current ones.
Cookies
One cookie, fyel_session, keeps you signed in for 30 days; it holds your
session tokens, is never readable by scripts and is sent only to fyel. Your language
choice is kept in your browser's local storage. There are no tracking or advertising
cookies, so there is nothing to opt out of.
How long we keep it
Everything attached to your account stays for as long as the account exists, and is destroyed when you delete it. We keep nothing about you after that except a minimal record of the subscription itself — that it existed, when it ended and which version of the terms you agreed to, which the law requires to stay provable — along with what Stripe must retain for tax and payment law, delivery logs already held by Resend, error reports already filed with Sentry and whatever the AI provider retains under its own terms.
Deleting your account
Settings asks you to confirm, then emails you a one-use link. Following it cancels your subscription immediately, destroys your pages, your topics, every lesson and quiz record, your transcripts, your uploaded files and their extracted text and your token counts, and deletes your account with our authentication provider. What it does not destroy is the record of the subscription itself: the identifiers, the dates and the version of the terms you consented to. No learning data and no address stays with it. See the terms for what immediate cancellation means for a period already paid.
Your rights
You may see what we hold about you, have it corrected, withdraw your consent, and take with you a copy of what you gave us. Settings has a "Download my data" button that gives you your pages, your topics, every lesson and quiz, your conversation with the tutor, the list of your uploaded files by name, your subscription standing and your weekly token counts as one JSON file; the files themselves are not in it. If you would rather we sent it, or want something corrected, write to the address above and we answer in writing within 30 days. If you are unhappy with our answer you may complain to the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec, or to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
If something goes wrong
If your data is accessed or lost in a way that could seriously harm you, we tell you and the Commission d'accès à l'information promptly, and record the incident.
Children
fyel is not directed at anyone under 16, and you must be 16 or older to sign up. Quebec law lets a person of 14 or older consent to the collection of their own information, so no parental consent is asked for.
Changes
We may update this policy as the product changes. A material change is announced by email before it takes effect, and the date at the top of this page moves.
